What a Builders Clean Involves
A builders clean is the staged cleaning of a completed or part-completed construction site, taking a building from site condition to handover condition. It is not a heavier version of a routine clean. Construction leaves fine dust that keeps settling for days after the tools stop, adhesive residue, plaster and paint splashes, protective film on glass and sanitaryware, and labels on almost everything newly installed. Each of those needs a different method, and running them in the wrong order means running them twice.

The Rough, Final and Sparkle Cleans We Carry Out
Rough clean
The mid-programme clean. Loose debris and offcuts out, floors cleared with dust suppression, stairs and circulation routes made safe, and welfare areas brought back to a usable state so the remaining trades work in a clean building.
Final clean
The deep stage. Every surface worked top down: ceilings, ductwork faces, light fittings, frames, sills and skirtings, floors last. Plaster, paint, grout haze, silicone and adhesive residue are removed by method rather than by force, so finishes are not marked.
Sparkle clean
The handover clean, and the one your client sees. Glass polished inside and out where access allows, sanitaryware and brassware detailed, kitchens and washrooms finished, and a final dust pass over every horizontal surface once the trades are out.
Protective film, labels and residue removal
Film off glazing, sanitaryware, worktops, appliances and ironmongery, with labels, barcodes and adhesive lifted cleanly. The slowest part of most sparkle cleans, and the most visible if it is rushed.
High-level and post-fit-out detail
Beams, ductwork, service runs, racking and light fittings cleaned at height where the programme allows, using the same top-down sequence as our industrial cleaning work.
Distribution and storage handovers
New and refurbished sheds handed over through our warehouse and factory cleaning crews, including floor scrubbing across large spans.
Snagging support
We flag defects as we clean, from paint runs and unfinished silicone to damaged fittings, and pass them to your site manager, so the snag list that comes back to you is shorter.

Do builders clean up after themselves?+
Site teams clear their own waste and sweep down, and most contracts require it, but that is site tidiness rather than handover condition. Fine dust, adhesive residue, paint and plaster splashes, protective film and labels are a separate job with different equipment. On most programmes the trades clear, then the builders clean runs as its own item against the handover date.
When should I schedule a post-construction clean?+
Book the rough clean once the heavy debris is out and first fix is done, and the final and sparkle cleans after the last wet trade and the last fit-out item. Give us the handover date as soon as you have it, because the sparkle clean has to be the last thing that happens in the building. Anything after it puts dust straight back.
How long does a builders clean take?+
It comes down to floor area, the number of glazed and sanitary units carrying film and labels, how much wet trade residue is left, and whether other trades are still working around us. A single fit-out unit can be a day. A multi-storey new build is a staged programme run across a week or more. The duration goes in the written quote.
What is the difference between a rough clean and a sparkle clean?+
A rough clean happens mid-programme: debris out, floors cleared, routes and welfare areas made usable so the trades can work. A sparkle clean is the last clean before handover, with glass polished, sanitaryware and brassware detailed, film and labels off and every surface dust-free. The final clean sits between the two and does the deep work.

How much does after-builders cleaning cost?+
There is no rate worth publishing, because no two sites hand over in the same condition. As a general guide, UK averages for after-builders cleaning are commonly quoted at around £25 to £37 an hour. What your site costs depends on area, stage, access, the volume of film and labels and the wet trade residue left. We walk it and give you a fixed written price first.
